Canine Influenza Virus

Canine influenza virus has spread recently to the Northern Virginia area. This is a highy contagious respiratory infection in dogs. We are strongly recommending two vaccines at 2-4 weeks apart, then one vaccine annually thereafter, if your dog is at risk. Risk factors for influenza are the same as for kennel cough. (Bordetella) It is transmitted , as with other respiratory pathogens, by direct contact with infected dogs and by aerosols generated by coughing and sneezing.
