The American Heartworm Society and AAHA

has released new canine heartworm guidelines and is now recommending annual testing for heartworm disease in all areas of the United States. Heartworm preventative is strongly recommended for pets all year round in our area. As of July 1, 2011, McLean Animal Hospital will require annual heartworm testing to dispense heartworm prevention. If your canine is not due for a heartworm test now, we will continue to dispense heartworm prevention until the heartworm test is due, then test annually.
